Anxiety is contagious and it can spread like fire. If you are constantly anxious, it will affect the people around you. If you have children, they too may become anxious and then later on can pass it along to their children. If you feel you are nervous, anxious or panicked, there are things you can do to help. A simple grounding technique can help bring your anxiety down. If you are preparing to head into a stressful meeting, try 444 – breath in for 4 seconds, hold it for 4 seconds, breath out for 4 seconds. Try that 4 times. Another option- notice one of your senses (seeing, feeling, touching, hearing, or smelling). For example, if you are in the waiting room at the doctor, simply notice what you see, observe your surroundings. Don’t judge, just observe, like an infant seeing something for the first time. These are just a couple quick suggestions that may help in the moment. I would be happy to discuss ways to reduce your anxiety.
